–UPDATE–
Upload is complete. Headlight is now open for login again.
On Friday November 16th we experienced an unintended service disruption for approximately 5 hours from 17.00 hrs – 22.00 hrs. Some users may have noticed this interruption. The reason was a planned migration where we experienced unforseen difficulties. All efforts was done to fix the problem as quickly as possible, but during these hours all redirects from Google and AdTech failed and registration of all traffic is missing for these hours.
We have immediately initiated actions to avoid similar situations in the future.
Should you have any questions or require any help from us, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
I’ve seen a lot of PowerPoint presentations lately, most of them was ok but there’s plenty of room for improvement in general. As a designers we’re probably a bit more sensitive to visual noise than non-designers, but never mind that. I’m not going to go all design-elitist on you, everyone that can open PowerPoint can create a good presentation. Unfortunately some that can open PowerPoint seem to think that BECAUSE it’s created in PowerPoint, it’s a good presentation. That is more or less as far as you get from the truth.
So in the interest of making the world a better place here’s a presentation on creating presentations that should be mandatory for all presenters.

A question I asked myself before I started working here the 1st of October was would I fit in at TraceWorks, and would I feel welcome? My curiosity in the days before I started my new job was big. I came from a company with great colleges and a good social atmosphere, and therefore I hoped for the best and wouldn’t settle with less. When I now look back on my first month of employment, these are the highlights that pop into mind.
The first week was hectic with a busy schedule with introduction to the company, products and overall getting to know my new colleagues. The welcoming was good, with a structured planning on what to do next which is important for me. I think it is nice to start a new job, and feel that you are being taking care of until the time you are up and running you self. The people here were, and still are really friendly, with a good mixture of various interest and personalities.
I know this isn’t an award show, but a special thank you note to my colleague Christoffer, for the effort and time he has put into introducing me to my new job here at TraceWorks.
I am really happy to be part of this great team and look forward to a good time working at TraceWorks.
We have in conjunction with debugging our export to CSV functionality found an error in Excel.
This can best be illustrated by creating a small test CSV like this:

When opening this in Excel, we get a beautiful representation like this:

All is good, life is lovely. Until you decide to rename the first column from MyID to just ID:

Then Excel gets nasty, and starts yelling at you:

There are two ways to get around this Excel error, either you just don’t call your first column ID, or you save the CSV as UTF-8 instead of ANSI, but then you might have some problems with correct encoding of local characters. Good going Microsoft.
Once in a while people ask why data in the section Google “Search terms” is so distorted. By which they mean that Headlight often can’t track all search terms people use (please note that search terms are not the same as keywords bought).
I noticed during this week that actually using specific add ons for Firefox (and probably also other browsers) you can click on the display URL.

The obvious problem to advertisers is that using the “headline link” gives you the ability to track everything (using whatever marketing tool), but the other one… well a click on that link wouldn’t track anything, since it’s basically a click on something that isn’t a link. Jikes!
Due to a power outage at our hosting provider Rackspace, we expierienced a couple of hours downtime this Sunday afternoon. All of our servers are now back, and Headlight online again.
Mads has done yet another astonishing video showing how to get your email activities tracked automatically.
It’s great stuff, so check out the wiki video whenever you have the time.
As we are still working on the wiki, please send us comments if you disagree with the way it’s done or would like videos on other topics.
We are currently experiencing one day’s delay in data. This means that yesterday’s data is just coming in to Headlight now. We expect to be back in live mode during the day today.
- UPDATE -
Nov 5th 21:03 : We are now back to live data.
