The Dojo is the official blog of the marketing software company TraceWorks.

When you set a new account in Google AdWords you are asked about your local time zone. You are also told that you can not change it later.

Somehow a lot of our customers got stuck with pacific time which is pretty useless for companies in Europe. The obvious solution would be to call your Google representative, but (s)he will tell you that it can’t be changed.

Doing a work shop with the good people at Green People - the market leaders in the business of organic skin care I came across a way of changing the unchangeable: If you edit a campaign and turn on scheduling, you can set the time zone!

How to change the time zone settings in AdWords

And for those of you wanting to change the time zone in Headlight: Call us and we will do it for you - no questions asked.

Do the Google people know this? No?
I think someone should go and make that call.

    Hi Tracey,

I don’t think they know it. Somehow I think they aren’t really interested in people knowing about this?

    Pelle,

Is there some reason (argument) you believe Google doesn’t want you to know about changing time zones? I’ve always seen Google as a company giving a lot of freedom to us developers, but would be curious about arguments against it..

    E.

    Hi Emil,

The reason I believe they don’t want people to know about it stems from the things I’m being told by customers who have asked Google to change the time zone for their accounts. Since it is possible (as we can see in my example) I don’t understand why the tell customers it can’t be done.

The reason from the Google perspective is most likely because databases do not like switching time zones - what should they do with all the old data? Keep in the original time zone or convert it to the new one?
