Hidden Headlight feature
Pelle Oct 3rd
It’s been a while (three weeks!!!) since the last post about new Headlight features. To make it up to you here’s one about something you can’t even see; our brand new API.
So what’s this about, you might ask?
Most of the things you can do in Headlight is actually API oriented - creating banners, making campaigns on Google and so on. Now we just decided to provide our own so you can enrich the data in Headlight or simply export them to other systems like your CRM system or anything similar.
It’s probably not the first thing you’ll start using, when you fire up Headlight for the first time, but I promise you in a year or so, you’ll start wondering how you managed without it!

APIs are an exceptionally important cornerstone in our product strategy.
We operate with two different kinds of API integrations.
1. APIs we integrate with.
*We’re e.g. already connected with Google and with Adtech. We’re very soon wrapping-up our integration with Yahoo and MSN. And we’re looking at integrating with other major networks as well.
Our long term vision is to become a virtual media exchange where you can buy, start and edit all sorts of campaigns. Being integrated with Google/Yahoo/MSN is a good first step.
2. Our own API for others to integrate with.
Most likely DOWNLOAD scenarios include:
*Download/import data into e.g. their own intranet / extranet for either reporting or data-mining purposes.
*Import of data into e.g. Business Intelligence solutions in merge marketing reports with other executive level reports or to import info from headlight into CRM solutions in order to know exactly the lead source and the cost.
Most likely UPLOAD scenarios include:
*Add additional external data to the WhyChart (not possible today)
*Enrich Headlight data with information from e.g. CRM solution: “This lead became a client” / “This lead didn’t”.
We’re also very inspired with AppExchange from Salesforce.com. It’s awesome.
I think the long-time effect of the API is even broader than the stuff we are designing right now.
I simply think we haven’t grasped the concept of API fully yet.
I also believe that very few companies got the message. AppExchange is so much cooler than most other stuff I’ve seen around the net recently.
The concept of making your API an essential part of your business model is pretty much the opposite of the “usual” model for many vendors.
I’m forward to seeing what customers will do with our API. Most probably stuff we’ve never considered, I guess and hope!
I agree 100%.
I especially agree that “we haven’t grasped the concept of API fully yet” - I know I haven’t.
